Islands of Thailand
Thailand is known for its amazing picturesque beaches and stunning views, so it was no surprise to me that it DELIVERED. Island hoping in Thailand is surprisingly an easy thing to do. You can travel by plane, by ferry, or even long boat to get to some of the more remote islands.
If I had to recommend one island in particular that stood out to me, it would be Krabi. This is the definition of island life. The "roads" are simply sidewalks, and there are no cars on the whole island. Although the main land is pretty touristy, you can hop on a long boat to Railay to get a more authentic experience. While in Railay my buddies and I were looking for a good hike, so as tourists do we went to trip advisor. We ended up finding an intermediate hike that said, " Difficult hike, half our group made it, but worth it." SO we thought we'd give it a whirl and get a good hike in. What trip advisor didn't mention was that the "hike" was actually scaling up a very large rock structure (cliff?) probably a couple hundred feet high in total, then scaling down at a 90 degree angle, sans equipment, in sandals (thanks Tevas!) into a lagoon. I don't say this often, but it was pretty dope. Luckily we made the trek on a dry day, for if it rained at all the mud and clay would be extremely dangerous. Once in the lagoon we were amazed at what lie before us. It isn't easy entering this lagoon, so the nature is practically untouched. Avatar style leaves that were 4 times the length of my body surrounded us, and the lagoon was as still as I’ve ever seen a body of water. Highly recommend if you're looking for some adventure. Just bring water and maybe a first aid kit.
