Sustainability at Kohl’s
Kohl’s has committed to sustainable solutions for a healthy future
…but how do we communicate that to the customer in a clear and honest way? Our team was tasked to create the system that accomplished that goal.
Role: Art Director
Company: Kohl’s Corporate
At Kohl's we believe that incorporating sustainable solutions will help to build better futures for families.
With such a large retail footprint, we are in a unique position to make resounding impacts on the planet and have set goals to ensure that impact is positive.
The four pillars of sustainability
We began with taking a look at our sustainable products. We broke down our sustainability program across both home goods and apparel into 4 different pillars. These pillars feature pieces made with organic materials, using water conscious methods, reusable materials, or produced using less chemicals.
Once we had those categories established, I began the visuals. I chose a color palette that was in the Kohl’s color family, but specifically focusing on the greens and blues. Knowing that these color evoke a calming feeling and nods back to water and land, it felt like the appropriate choice. I wanted the icons to be clean and modern so that when the customer is shopping, they can instantly identify them.
Beyond the initial system
Once the system was built, our team passed the torch to the other teams in marketing to execute the creative for all of all marketing channels. See below for a few examples of how the system came to life.
